College, Career and Empowerment Summit

The College, Career and Empowerment Summit is an annual two-day event focused on college, career, and empowerment as a way to encourage participants to set goals, take steps to achieve them, identify intrinsic and extrinsic barriers, and become empowered to move past obstacles to achievement/success. Focusing on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM), the summit will include opportunities for career and personal assessments, interacting with corporate and higher education professionals, experiencing through exhibits, and insight into jobs in demand and future/non-traditional careers of the future. The overarching goal is to support Houston’s secondary and postsecondary schools as well as the city’s effort to close the academic achievement gap that adversely affects the city’s economic base. Though each summit is different, it is reinforced by six (6) Essential Pillars of Excellence, on which initiatives will evolve. Some of our past guests, sponsors, and partners included: Minute Maid, Halliburton, NIKE, Cadillac, Dr. Howard White (NIKE Jordan), Dr. Reagan Flowers (STEM), Houston Independent School District, Houston Community/City College, METRO, NASA, Dr. Ashandra Batiste (OWN), and more.

DocFest

The Mission of DocFest, Inc. is to support higher education for HSPVA alumni. This is primarily accomplished by an annual series of benefit concerts/reunions/jam sessions featuring successful HSPVA graduates and additional renowned artists. In consultation with Dr. Morgan and his wife, Helen, it has been established that funds generated by DocFest will primarily be dedicated to the Helen and Bob Morgan Jazz Scholarship Fund at New York’s New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music, endowed by the Morgans (with assistance from SBC Foundation) in 1999.
